“When it comes to music, there’s a market for everything. So some frat house DJ somewhere is probably stoked to wake up early on April 21 and race to the record store so he can stand in line to buy the 311 dubstep remix EP (ATO). The Michael Bublé/Ray Charles split single, featuring their respective takes on “Georgia On My Mind” (Warner Bros.), seems equally suspicious — as do a lot of other items on the list this year. Not the least of which is a decadent 6xLP Disturbed box set, cleverly titled The Collection (Reprise). This one just reeks of some sort of scheme to clear out the warehouse of those ceiling-high stacks of Disturbed meth-metal that don’t seem to be going anywhere.
Just sayin’. I sincerely doubt that the record-buying public is clamoring to hear “Down With the Sickness” on crisp black vinyl. What’s next, the ultimate Godsmack box set remastered at 45 RPMs to make its barreling drop-D chug even more killer? (I hope that I didn’t just give Godsmack’s label any ideas for RSD 2013.)
Taste is in the ear of the beholder, but there comes a time when enough is enough.”
Here’s a scenario: You come home for Christmas, call up your old punk rock buddies, and find out they’re really into hip-hop and dance music now. Catching up, you pretend to understand words like “chillwave” and “dubstep,” taking their word for it that those are, in fact, real things.
That’s what’s going on right now with Seattle’s Sub Pop Records, known for bringing fringe rock music to the masses for over 20 years.

Fitz & The Tantrums “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) LIVE”
Saw these guys again last night, and they continue to impress.
Both the Cranberries AND Mazzy Star are releasing new music for the first time in over 10 Years.
Max Martin (songwriter for such hits as “…Baby One More Time,” “Tearin’ Up My Heart” and “I Want it That Way”) was named ASCAP’s Songwriter of the Year for 2011 after penning “California Girls” “Teenage Dream” “Last Friday Night” “Raise Your Glass” “Dynamite” “Hold it Against Me” and “Till the World Ends.” Not to Mention he produced Robin’s 90s hit “Do You Know (What it Takes)” then was at the helm for “Time Machine” off Bodytalk.
What if this means Jakob Dylan, Darius Rucker, Eddie Vedder and that guy from Eagle-Eye Cherry form a super-group called the Traveling Strawburys?

If I own any merch[i don’t]I’m going to do this, Tumblr. I know it’s Saturday night so you’re all at bars (watching baseball! right? turn off the college football right now and insist people watch the MLB playoffs because anyone who watches college football over baseball is a
communistbad American), so if at any point in the next week or so you leave me a message with just the name of a band I’ll assume it pertains to this.
This seems like a good idea. Drop a band/artist in the ask box. And like Ryan, odds are I don’t have any merch…

The indie electronic meets D’Angelo trend continues. #PBR&B
(Ry, I thought you might like this if you haven’t heard it yet. Somewhat of a cross between James Blake and The Weeknd, no?)
